A meal plan template that fills itself in

A template gives you a place to put dinners. Repast chooses them for you. Its AI fills your cooking nights with published recipes that fit your tastes, household, and time limits. Review the menu, change anything you want, and build the grocery list. The app works out the quantities for you.

The Repast plan screen as a filled-in meal plan template: a week grid anchored to the shop day, each night's dinner card carrying its photo and prep time.

What the best templates get right

The good ones share a shape. They start the week on the day you shop, because groceries define a week better than Mondays do. They show only the nights you cook. They keep the prep time visible beside each dinner, and they end in a consolidated shopping section. If you want to plan by hand, that is the layout worth copying, and it will genuinely work for as long as you keep filling it in.

The catch is those last seven words. A template is storage for decisions, and the decisions were always the expensive part.

The same structure, with the work inside

Repast is that layout, running as software. The week anchors to your shopping day. The nights you cook are the nights it plans. Every card wears its published prep time, and the cells arrive filled: dinners selected from 10,000+ real recipes to fit the rules you set once, from allergens to household size to the weeknight clock. Your Sunday job shrinks from authoring a week to approving one, which takes about a minute.

The grocery section fills itself too, and better than hands can. One row per ingredient, totaled across every dinner, computed on your phone. When plans change mid-week, tap Update grocery to recalculate the list while keeping track of what you have already bought.

A template that learns your handwriting

The dinners your household loved, recent meals, and saved favorites help guide the next plan. Repast uses your feedback alongside the preferences you set for your household. You can also ask for changes by chat, so a filled-in week is a starting point you can shape around how you feel now.

Keep the structure. Lose the authorship. Keep the grid, the shop-day anchor and the consolidated list. Lose the blank cells, the derived shopping math and the Sunday hour. That trade is the whole product.

Template questions

What should a weekly meal plan template include?

Four things make a template work. A week grid that starts on your shopping day rather than on Monday. A row for each night you actually cook, with the nights you don't marked as such. Space beside each dinner for its prep time, so the fast nights get the fast dishes. And a grocery section that consolidates ingredients across the week, because the shopping is where a paper plan usually falls apart.

Is there a meal plan template I don't have to fill in every week?

That is exactly what Repast is. The structure of a good template is built into the app: the week anchored to your shop day, the nights you cook, the time each dish takes, and the consolidated grocery list. The difference is that the cells fill themselves. Describe your household once and each week arrives already written, for you to adjust instead of author.

Why do meal planning spreadsheets stop getting used?

A spreadsheet gives you the boxes, but you still have to choose the dinners and work out the shopping quantities. Repast selects the menu around your preferences and lets you generate the grocery list from it. If your week changes, ask the assistant for a different dinner and update the list when you are ready to shop.

Can I still change what's in the plan, like editing a template?

Swap a dish, pin a favorite, drag Tuesday onto Thursday, or type an instruction to the planning agent in plain English. After changing the menu, use Update grocery to recalculate the shopping quantities. The app keeps track of amounts you have already bought when it builds the updated list.

Does the template handle the grocery list part?

Tap to build the grocery list from your plan: one row per ingredient, totaled across your dinners, computed on your phone against a table of 33 units. Three dishes calling for garlic become one garlic row with the amount worked out. After changing a dinner, use Update grocery to refresh the list.

How long does switching from my template take?

Minutes, because there is nothing to migrate. A template holds decisions you have not made yet, so there is no data to move: install the app, answer the four setup questions, and the first filled-in week is on screen. The printable never cost you money. It cost you the Sunday hour of filling it in, and that is the part that ends.

Retire the spreadsheet.

All the structure of a great weekly template, none of the weekly authorship. The cells fill themselves, the list adds itself up, and week three actually happens.
